Trip to Gaya ( Bihar) : SITA KUND
It was about 4 am in the morning when we all had to go to the temple to perform the ritual . I was so excited , as you all have guessed about me from my previous post . Well ! It was the time when I got break from my boring and dull academic life and learn something new . We were taken to a large ground ( which seemed first ) but then Pandit g explained that it was the area of 'FALGU' river .
THE CURSE OF FALGU :
It was said that at one point Falgu river was one of the major river in India . But its fate changed when shree ram visited gaya with his wife sita for pinddaan during pitripaksha . When the two brothers were away to fetch the materials for pinddaan , suddenly an aakashvani happened which said , " This is the correct time for the ritual" . So, in order to honor the aakashvani , sita performed the ritual keeping the falgu , a brahmin , a cow , tulsi (holy basil) and a banyan tree as the witnesses . When the two brothers returned and she told them that because of the aakashvani she had performed the ritual . Except Banyan tree none of the witnesses testified that sita had indeed performed the ritual . So , she cursed the river , due to which river lost its water .
Even now it is said that the water level of the river rises barely to the knee level but in summer the river remains barren .
We performed the ritual with making balls from mud and water , which according to pandit g woould then be involving all 5 elements( viz, Land , water , air , fire and sky ) , when he lit up havan kund . It was indeed a miracle and a mystery which according to the locals , many scientists from foreign countries came and examined but the real reason is still a mystery !! what do you think guys ?
Then we went to the nearby dhaba to take meal of the day ( first and last) , because since the morning we were visting nearby temples to complete ritual .
Rituals always give us a different and unique experience.
